How to Find Your Soul Purpose in Astrology

How to Find Your Soul Purpose in Astrology

Why are you here?  That is the question that everyone has asked ever since the dawn of creation.  We want to make sense out of life.  After all, we were given the gift of reason for a purpose.  In this post, I will talk about how to find your soul purpose is in astrology.

Your soul’s ultimate purpose is to evolve.  This comes through fully experiencing your reality by being present and learning the lessons as they come.  Challenges are choices.  You can choose to either respond negatively or positively towards them.

Astrology acts as a mirror to energies in play on Earth.  It is thought the energies of the different planets in the zodiac are synchronistic to life on Earth.  They are the archetypes of our reality.  The time of our birth is when our essence was timestamped in the stars and we can get an idea of our purpose by reflecting on our birth chart.

There isn’t one particular placement in the birth chart where you will find your soul’s purpose.  Instead, the birth chart should be looked at as a sort of puzzle with multiple pieces that make up the whole image. The planets represent different aspects of our psyche on the individual and collective level..  Your birth chart helps you to assess your gifts, talents and path of development in life.  It also gives you insight about lessons that need to be learned in this lifetime.

Purpose in Your Birth Chart

Your birth chart is an image of your Inner Child.  It’s the starting point from which we evolve.  We are born with an identity and purpose.  However, as we grow older our identity becomes forgotten.  In order to be realigned with our soul’s purpose we must retrieve this identity.  Clues can be found in the birth chart including those we will talk about below.

The astral bodies mentioned below should be used as a guide.

Sun

The sun placement in your chart can be your biggest clue and indicator of what your soul’s purpose is centered around.  The sun sign represents the way that you express your purpose through self-will and determination.  It represents the energy that makes you feel confident and where you find strength.  The energy of the sun in our chart is a source of confidence and renewal.

Mid-Heaven

The Midheaven is thought to represent your career and profession or even sometimes your calling.  It is where you express your purpose through your career and public life.  This energy represents getting paid for what you love doing.  Your career is a puzzle piece to the whole image of your soul purpose in astrology.

Jupiter

The placement of Jupiter in your chart represents where you are meant to expand and grow.  Jupiter is similar to Saturn where we can learn lessons that lead to expansion in our lives.  However, the lessons that Jupiter, the philosopher, teaches are a lot easier than the lessons that are taught by the strict father figure of Saturn.

The lessons that Jupiter teaches are learned effortlessly because it is an area that we are gifted in.  These gifts in turn create the expansion needed in order to evolve them.  Your gift makes room for you.  When we activate and harness these gifts things seem to fall into place almost in miraculous fashion.  You may feel it’s the “favor of the Lord.”

Our soul’s purpose of evolution is a process of expansion and restriction.  Study the placement of Jupiter in your chart to get an idea of where you are meant to expand.  It is also helpful to look into your current transits to get a better idea of where you are expanding in your life now.

Saturn

Saturn’s placement in your birth chart represents the lessons that you are to learn in life.  Saturn transits through all 12 of the zodiac signs every 28-30 years.  Each cycle represents lessons that are built on top of the previous.

To get an idea of what your soul purpose in astrology is, it is helpful to see what lessons you have learned from Saturn’s cycle and what it seems to be leading to.  Reflect on what you learned as Saturn moved through each zodiac sign.

Saturn’s Lessons

Typically the themes of the lessons will revolve around where you felt limited and restricted.  Saturn represents the boundaries in our life that are either placed on us or that we have placed on ourselves.  The 28-30 year cycle is the overall theme with individual lessons that are learned through each sign of the zodiac during Saturn’s transit.

The first Saturn cycle that we experience in life is around the ages of 28 and 31.  During this time many of us begin to settle into careers and seek to establish a home for ourselves.  We go from turning up during our early 20’s and then begin our 30’s growing up.

Even though Saturn is the karmic teacher, he doesn’t create or cause karma in our life.  Karma is of our own doing.  Saturn simply brings to light the lesson that we need to learn in order to resolve this karma.  He teaches us responsibility and sets limitations to bring balance to the expansion that Jupiter provides.

Working With Saturn’s Energies

Ultimately, these lessons are essential for our soul’s purpose of evolution.  Saturn gets a bad rep for this and is typically seen as the malefic one.  I see him more as the “hard ass” father with a stern demeanor.  However, you will find when you work with the energies of Saturn and study the lessons the energies become a lot more supportive.  It is as almost the energy of Saturn guides you in the process.

Pluto

Pluto represents your shadow side and the area that you are meant to transform.  It represents your unconscious impulses.  Pluto takes 12 to 30 years to transit a zodiac sign which takes 248 years to complete.

The energy of this planet represents our unconscious impulses that lead to transformation.  It is our dark and repressed side of our Self.  The shadow must be integrated in order for wholeness to be experienced and you can’t evolve without wholeness.  If you are interested in more information about shadow working then please read How to Find Your Shadow Self.

Venus

This planet represents what you love and value.  It is what you attract and are attracted to.  Venus represents so much more than romantic love.  It represents where we experience joy and pleasure in including areas of artistic talents or creative abilities.  An aspect of your soul’s purpose in astrology is to co-create your own reality through love.

Mars

The planetary energy of Mars represents your courage and ability to go after what you love and value.  It is the fiery planet of desire and passion.

Think about the things that you are passionate about in life.  Typically what you are most passionate about is aligned with your soul’s purpose in astrology.  These passionate energies that we were born with were not a mistake or some weird disillusionment.  They are intricately interwoven with your essence.

Part of Fortune

The Part of Fortune symbolizes areas of life and energies where you find the most prosperity and success.  It also represents where you find your greatest joy and happiness in life.  In fact, the statements go hand in hand.

By focusing on what brings us joy and happiness in life we will in return reap prosperity and success.  When we focus too much of our attention and focus in life on things that we don’t enjoy we tend to reap more stress and frustration.  Energy follows where we set our attention.

Asteroids

When it comes to astrology most people only really know about the planets as they engage in more of a surface level interest in the field.  However, as you dig deeper and continue to learn more you will begin to look into other astral energies.  Such energies include asteroids.

Many times the energies associated with asteroids can be very subtle and sometimes unnoticeable until we spend some time contemplating their correspondences. We can then begin to see the synchronicities.  So they are helpful to consider when trying to understand your soul purpose in astrology.

Pallas

The sign and house of Pallas Athena in your chart is thought to indicate where and how you are able to utilize your creative intelligence.  We are all creators and part of our soul purpose in astrology points to our ability to create.

Vesta

The sign and house of this asteroid in your chart is thought to indicate where we focus our energies and what we are devoted to.  So consider what you are naturally devoted to.  What are things that you enjoy doing and come with ease?

Don’t Only Rely on Astrology

Altogether, you shouldn’t rely on astrology alone to get a full understanding or insight about your soul purpose.  Instead, it should be used as a tool.  There are some other really great things that we can do to get insight about our soul purpose.

Journaling is another method especially when using automatic writing methods to flesh out all the thoughts that come to your mind.  It is also helpful when combined with shadow work.  During shadow work we begin to remember our identity and purpose that is tied with it.

Taking strengths and career assessments can give you an idea of the natural gifts you have and the career fields they can be utilized in.  These assessments should be used in combination with assessing your experiences in your career.  Consider times that you have felt fulfilled and times that you were frustrated.  These feelings are a great guide to give us a full understanding of our purpose.

Hopefully this helps you learn how to find your soul purpose in astrology. There are many other great tools that can be used to give you insight about your purpose.  Ultimately, I have learned that just getting started with anything begins to open doors and you receive valuable insight and inclinations about your purpose.
